The Dartmoor Round                                                        UK Ultras

Early Morning, Branscombe's Loaf (Jon Croome)

While most of the country was preparing to party on the eve of the new Millenium in 1999 Nigel Jenkins of Axe Valley Runners had a different sort of celebration in mind! He was out on Dartmoor notching up the first completion of a new 24 hour round of 28 Tors. Starting from the Royal Oak in Meavy he arrived back just 18 hours 3 minutes later to join in with the festivities. His run involved some 75 miles of arduous moorland terrain and approximately 12,000 feet of climbing. The round was repeated more recently by Jon Croome in 2017 - see below for his account in The Fellrunner.

Route

The route starts and finishes at the Royal Oak pub in Meavy, (GR 540 672) and visits the 28 tors listed below. Use in conjunction with OS Explorer map (1:25000): OL 28 Dartmoor

Schedule

None currently available.

Registration

Runners are invited to repeat the challenge within 24 hours. Registrations are recorded on the Axe Valley Runners website (see below).  Please send details of overall time, date and schedule of actual times at each Tor by email: garry.perratt@axevalleyrunners.org.uk
